Abstract of Paper -I
PRAKARA - CONCEPT OF
PREVENTIVE MEDICINE IN AYURVEDA
(Sreedhar.M.H, Final year PG Scholar,
Department of kaumarabhritya)
This unique concept is explained very
effectively in one of the traditional Ayurveda books of Kerala namely,
AROGYAKALPADRUMA. The schedule of Prakara yogas begins right from birth up to 12 years
of age.
Prakara
means a protective wall. Prakaras are those
yogas which help to enhance the bala
in the body and thereby improving the vyadhi kshamathwa sakthi in the body. It is a type of
yuktikrita bala. The importance
is given to boost the immunity of the child and its intellectual capacity.
The concept of immunity in Ayurveda has
wider implications than the disease-specific immunization followed by the
modern medicine. Though immunization is simple and
controls the disease effectively, only particular diseases can be prevented by
particular immunizations and efficacy of immunizations depends on the vaccines
available and the biological and social response of the individuals, but prakara yogas
can build up the general immunity of the body against a wider range of
pathogens.
Prakarayogas
are the preparations which are most suitable, particular, unique and powerful
which can make children healthy. So
proper and scientific uses of these formulations of course increase the bala
and protect the child from diseases. This underlines the principle of health.
That is to say ‘Prevention is better than cure’. Healthy children are the
signboards of the nation’s prosperity. Thus Ayurveda has key role in shaping
the tomorrow’s healthy society.
Abstract of Paper -II
CHILDHOOD AUTISM
(Dr.Ayshath M, Final year PG Scholar, Department of kaumarabhritya)
(Dr.Ayshath M, Final year PG Scholar, Department of kaumarabhritya)
Autism is a Neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by impairment in the areas of reciprocal social interaction, communication and restrictive and repetitive stereotypical patterns of behaviour, interests or activities. The prevalence of autism is increasing day by day. Etiology is multifactorial with a strong genetic influence and many environmental factors are also attributed to the disease. In Ayurveda it can be included in the Unmadam spectrum.Early diagnosis is very crucial so that multidimensional approach including Ayurvedic treatment can be planned as early as possible to drive the child to the mainstream of society. Prevention of Autism has also to be thought of through Ayurveda.
