Irritable bowel syndrome is the functional disorder of intestine characterized by alteration of the bowel habits and abdominal
pain in the absence of any detectable organic pathology. It
is generally believed that most patients develop symptoms in response to
psychosocial factors, altered gastrointestinal motility, altered visceral
sensation or luminal factors. IBS being the most prevalent digestive disease,
accounts for frequent absenteeism from work and impaired quality of life. The
cardinal features of Grahani roga explained in classical textbooks of Ayurveda
have similarities with clinical features of Irritable Bowel Syndrome explained
in Western medicine. Grahani roga represents a group of disorder of digestive
system caused by impairment of Agni.
The study ‘Effect of a selected Ayurvedic treatment
modality in Irritable Bowel Syndrome’ is to evaluate the effect of treatment
modality in IBS, with a maximum time period of 40 days at Govt.Ayurveda College Hospital ,Thiruvananthapuram. In this
study patients will be selected and
assigned under a single group by confirming Rome IV criteria.

pachana oushadha followed by Vicharana snehapanam with Dadimadi Ghritha,
Abhyanga with Thila thaila and ushnambu snanam, Virechana with Avipathi choorna
followed by peyadi krama. The dosage of snehapana and virechana will be

ABSTRACT
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) is a
contagious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2
(SARS-CoV-2), which was first identified in Wuhan, China. World Health
Organisation declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on
30 January 2020 and later a pandemic on 11 March 2020. Globally, by July 29,
2021 there have been 195 million confirmed cases including 4.18 million deaths.
Of those people who develop noticeable symptoms, most (81%) develop mild to
moderate symptoms, while 14% develop severe symptoms and 5% suffer critical
symptoms. In Ayurveda, the pandemics are termed to as Janapadodhwamsa or
Maraka, main nidanas are the contamination of Vayu(air), Udaka(water),
Desa(location) and Kala(seasons) which give rise to infectious diseases which
kill mass of people. In the current scenario COVID-19 is similar to vātakapha
dominant sannipātajvara of āgantu origin with pittānubandha. Some patients who
have been infected with SARS-CoV-2, have new, recurring or ongoing symptoms and
clinical findings four or more weeks after the initial symptom recovery. These
post-covid conditions may also be known as long COVID, long-haul COVID,
post-acute COVID-19, long-term effects of COVID, or chronic COVID.
The
study will be conducted in a single group. Patients with Long Covid symptoms
attending the Out Patient Department of Government Ayurveda College,
Thiruvananthapuram, from the period of June 2021 to May 2022 will be the
participants of the study. Data relating to the clinical profile of the
participants, Ayurvedic management of the Long Covid symptoms and its outcome
will be collected with the help of specially prepared data sheet.
