DISSERTATION TITLE: EFFECT OF VISHWAADI CHURNAM IN CLINICAL DEPRESSION.
TIME: 2:00-4:00 PM

ABSTRACT
Everyone
experiences sadness and unhappiness at some point in their lives. Clinical depression, however,
is more intense
and of longer duration than typical sadness
or grief, which
interferes with a person’s ability
to engage in daily activities. Depression has a greater
impact on community than many physical
illnesses. It is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and is a major
contributor to the overall global
burden of disease. Ayurveda provides rational means for the treatment of many physical and mental disorders
which are considered to be obstinate
and incurable in other systems of medicine. In Ayurveda
perspective, Depression can be explained under Kaphaja unmada. Vishwaadi choornam (Harita Samhita Unmada Chikitsa) has
10 drugs in it. The primary aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of Vishwaadi
choornam in reducing the signs
and symptoms of Depression.

an interventional study – pre and post without control group. Male and female patients of the age group 20 – 60 years
attending the OPD of Department of Kayachikitsa, Government Ayurveda College,

be included in the study. They will be subjected to detailed clinical evaluation and the data will be
recorded. The study will be conducted in a single group. Participants will be given Vishwaadi
choornam, 6gm mixed with ghee, twice daily half an hour before food for a period of 60 days.
Patients will be encouraged for regular visit at OPD at an interval
of 15 days for uninterrupted feedback. 30 packets
