Abstract of Paper I
Sootikopachara- A Scientific Approach
Dr. Aparna S Nair, Final year P.G Scholar, Dept. of Prasoothithantra, GAVC, TVM

Motherhood is a precious gift given by nature to the women. A lady undergoes a number of complex changes during pregnancy and during sutikavastha these changes start approximately to the pre pregnant state. Thus proper care and treatment should be given to sootika so that she should recover fast. According to conventional science the puerperal period begins as soon as the placenta is expelled and lasts approximately about 6 weeks. According to  the duration we can consider the sootika kala  as 1 ½ month, 4 month, 6 month or till the appearance  of menstruation. The diet , habit and medicines Ayurveda offers the women after delivery help a great deal in reducing the post delivery complications. That’s why a special dietary  and habitual regimen called sootika paricharya is recommended. There are some differences in the practice of sootika paricharya. My attempt is to modify the  sootika paricharya scientifically.
