ABSTRACT

Vegas are natural urges and are usually spontaneous in nature. They are inevitable for the maintenance of proper health. Tendency to suppress natural urges are common among working women. Especially suppression of urine, feaces and flatus are common in them due to the social circumstances and their busy life schedule. According to Ayurvedaadhovegadharana can cause many symptoms such as siroruja ,klama etc. Suppression of urine can lead to urinary tract infection ,which is the second most common bacterial infection in the world. Suppression of urge to defecate can cause Constipation. Suppression of flatus can lead to the formation of diverticula. Working women due to lack of time , long working hours   using  unhygienic toilet etc are more susceptible for the suppression of natural urges, The study was  conducted to find out the habit of suppression of adhovegas and its ill effects among them. For the study 300 working women from various institution  in Thiruvananthapuram city were  selected by cluster sampling and were given semi structured questionnaire which is pretested by the experts in this field . With the help of this prevalence adhovegadharanaand its ill effects will be elicited. The analysis of preliminary data , personal history ,  suppression habits and ill effects has brought out the prevalence of adlogavegadharana and its ill effects and the significance of association between them . The result obtained in the study were analysed by Chi-square test. 84.3% of the women were having the habit of suppression of one or more adhogavega . Among the 3 adhogavega mutra is the most commonly suppressed one. The ill effects like head ache, muscle cramps,body ache are highly prevalent among working women who were having the habit of suppression of adhogavega.

ABSTRACT

Ageing is the progressive deteriorative changes that starts from birth, continue throughout the life and ends with death. Increasing number of elders in the population is a matter of great concerns because of its impacts on public health and socio-economic growth of our country. As per the report of National Commission on Population, there are nearly 138 million elderly people in India in 2021. Prevention and management of health problems could help the elderly to improve quality of life and remain independence for their daily activities. As the age advances Dhatus get degenerated due to prolonged structural and functional changes. Rasayana is a multi-angled approach, taking care of the body, mind and spirit, thus responsible for the total health of a person. Quality of life is the subjective component of well-being and it measures person’s subjective feeling of happiness or unhappiness about various life concerns. This study is aimed at assessing the effect of Yashtimadhu choorna with cow’s milk in improving the quality of life of elderly people. A sample size of 30 participants aged 60-75 years from the OPD of Swasthavritta, Govt. Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram was selected satisfying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and advised to take Yashtimadhu choorna with cow’s milk for a period of 45 days. The Quality of life assessed before and after the study by using Older People’s Quality Of Life (OPQOL)-35 questionnaire. Data was collected, processed and conclusions were made accordingly. The data was analysed statistically using paired t test. Total quality of life score showed highly significant results with p<0.001. Hence study concluded that Yashtimadhu choorna with cow’s milk is effective in improving the quality of life of elderly people.
