Abstract

Breast milk is the prime source of nourishment to a newborn baby. It improves the physical as well as mental strength and immunity of the baby. In Ayurveda, unique concept of sthanya dushti or milk vitiation has been described in which mother’s food and activities affect the quantity and quality of the milk. The unwholesome diet and lifestyle habits of the mother leads to vitiation of breast milk and produces various diseases in the baby. It shows that not only the treatment of baby is enough but also the treatment of vitiated breast milk is equally important as it being the cause for morbidities in infants. In Ayurveda certain herbs and formulations are specifically indicated for detoxifying the breast milk and improve the quality of milk and there by the growth of baby along with liberation from symptoms caused due to vitiation. Acharyas Vagbhata and Sushrutha have mentioned about Vachadigana as Sthanya sodhanagana. On analyzing the ingredients of the gana, it can be used in kapha dosha pradhana sthanya dusthi. This clinical study will be conducted on the lactating mothers of infants presenting with morbidities seeking treatment under the OPD of Dept of Kaumarabhritya and Well Baby Clinic of Govt Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram. The study consists of two parts. In the first part, the effect of vachadi gana Kashaya given for a period of 7 days in diagnosed cases with Kapha vitiated breast milk will be measured by qualitative and quantitative breast milk analysis methods.                                               Abstract

Ayurveda is a unique science that explains the health status of an individual based on the equilibrium of the doshas, dhatus and malas. Dhatus are considered as the structural units of the body, among which rasa dhatu is the first formed dhatu from the essence of ahara rasa and which act as the precursor for the formation of rest of the dhatus. Rasa dhatu kshaya in children should be considered seriously as it badly affects the growth, development and immune status of the body. The COVID-19 pandemic has generated the need of more digital technologies to provide sufficient patient care. The present study aims at developing a user friendly Multilingual Interactive Software to assess the rasa dhatu kshaya in children of age group 6 -12 years. A pre-validated tool developed for the assessment of rasa dhatu kshaya is selected as the basic tool for the assessment of grading of rasa dhatu kshaya. A new questionnaire also will be developed to assess the etiological factors of rasa dhatu kshaysa and will be validated by subject experts. After validation by subject experts, the entire data will be translated to selected languages and finally the software will be developed.  After the development of the software, the etiological factors and grading of the rasa dhatu kshaya of the school age children from the selected schools of Thiruvananthapuram district will be collected and further analyzed using appropriate statistical methods.
