Abstract of Paper I
Sootikopachara- A Scientific Approach
Dr. Aparna S Nair, Final year P.G Scholar, Dept. of Prasoothithantra, GAVC, TVM

Motherhood is a precious gift given by nature to the women. A lady undergoes a number of complex changes during pregnancy and during sutikavastha these changes start approximately to the pre pregnant state. Thus proper care and treatment should be given to sootika so that she should recover fast. According to conventional science the puerperal period begins as soon as the placenta is expelled and lasts approximately about 6 weeks. According to  the duration we can consider the sootika kala  as 1 ½ month, 4 month, 6 month or till the appearance  of menstruation. The diet , habit and medicines Ayurveda offers the women after delivery help a great deal in reducing the post delivery complications. That’s why a special dietary  and habitual regimen called sootika paricharya is recommended. There are some differences in the practice of sootika paricharya. My attempt is to modify the  sootika paricharya scientifically.

 Abstract of Paper II
Uterine Fibroids
Dr. Sandhya C V, Final year P.G Scholar, Dept. of Prasoothithantra, GAVC, TVM

The word uterine fibroid (leio myomata) is familiar to us as it is a commonest benign solid tumor in females.20%of women at the age of 30 has got fibroid in their wombs. Prevalence is higher in 35-45years.Incidence of symptomatic fibroid is only 3%in op. Other important factor is that 70%of hysterectomies done now a day are due to fibroids. Why this disease become so common now a day? The answer ends in the changing dietary habits and sedentary lifestyles.

This presentation aims to refresh the knowledge about fibroids and also to think what Ayurveda can do with fibroids. This covers the diagnosis, signs and symptoms with complications of fibroids, possible nidana, samprapthi, lakshanas according to dosha predominance, and how different treatment principles can be adopted in the treatment fibroids according to dosha predominance.
