ABSTRACT

Pilonidal sinus is an epithelium lined tract, situated short distance behind the anus in sacrococcygeal region, containing hairs and unhealthy diseased granulation tissue. It is due to penetration of hairs through the skin into subcutaneous tissue, causing a spectrum of clinical presentations, ranging from asymptomatic hair containing cysts and sinuses to large symptomatic abscesses. The treatment includes both conservative and surgical procedures. It is highly recurrent in nature, which makes this condition more difficult

to treat. In Ayurveda, it can be correlated to nadivrana on the basis of signs and symptoms. Nadivrana are of 5 types and salyaja nadivrana can be compared with Pilonidal sinus The treatment includes exhana, padana, taila daha and ksharasutra application.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the healing effect of dahana with Svarjikadi taila after padana (complete incision) in Pilonidal sinus as an one time procedure. This is an interventional single arm open trial study. Sampling method is consecutive sampling and sample size is 15. Participants of age group 15-40 years having Pilonidal sinus are taken irrespective of gender from the OPD and IPD of the Department of Salyathantra, Government Ayurveda College, Trivandrum, satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria.
